Honors Program

Participation in the Heartland Community College Honors Program enhances your appeal to four-year institutions. Plus, you'll enjoy:

  • Enrolling in two small, interactive, seminar-style courses - HONR 101 and HONR 201 which are taught by some of HCC's most engaging faculty
  • Developing enhanced, individualized honors projects in regular courses for which you will receive Honors course credit on your transcript
  • Presenting research in class or at a conference or symposium
  • Engaging in professional development and campus activities with other honors students
  • Serving as an honors representative at college events
  • Socializing at special activities for honors students like game, movie and comedy nights
  • Participating in or leading community service projects
  • Collaborating with others during large-scale service projects or as part of HCC's Alternative Spring Break

Determine Your Eligibility

Incoming HCC Students

As a new student you need to fulfill two of the following requirements to be eligible for the Honors Program:

  • Have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Be in the top 10% of your graduating class
  • Have an ACT score of 25 or higher, or an SAT score of 1200 or higher
  • Have a letter of recommendation from a high school instructor, guidance counselor or Heartland faculty member if you've been involved in College Now or taken dual-credit classes.

Current HCC Students

If you meet both of the following criteria you are invited to apply for participation:

  • Successful completion of at least 12 credit hours in college-level coursework
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher in those courses
