Heartland Film Festival

May 10-11, 2023

The Heartland Film Festival is back for another year to showcase the work of current and former students of HCC!

Join us for a free screening of the award-winning documentary With This Breath I Fly on Wednesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. in the Astroth Community Education Center (ACEC).

Director/producer Sam French will be available after the screening via Zoom for a Q&A with attendees.

Shot over ten years, With This Breath I Fly follows two courageous women as they fight for their freedom against a patriarchal Afghan society determined to keep them bound to tribal culture, while exposing the complicity of the European Union in censoring their voices, and how the international press – and our documentary – forever alters the course of their lives.

Current and former HCC students' short films will be featured on May 11 at 6 p.m. in the ACEC. A panel of Heartland professors will review the submissions and assemble a program of finalists for the final screening to determine the top-ranking films. All genres of short films are accepted and prizes will be given out to filmmakers!
