Complete the Registration Process
1. Apply
You only need to apply once as a high school student. Your application remains active until the graduation date you provide.
Helpful hints for submitting the application:
You will need a valid e-mail address to complete the application.
- On the Personal Information Pages (1-3):
- Enter your complete, primary mailing address. Include the apartment or unit # if applicable
- If you are younger than 18, your emergency contact must be your parent/guardian
- A Social Security Number (SSN) is required. If you do not have, or are unable to provide, a SSN at the time you apply, select "I cannot provide my Social Security Number at this time". We will email you a link to a form to provide an ITIN or to verify that you do not have either an SSN or ITIN. Failure to provide an SSN or complete the form will delay course registration
- On the Education page (5):
- Click Find My High School and enter the first word or keyword, and the state. Select your school from the search results. If you are taking courses at your Career Center, be sure to add it here also.
- Dates of attendance should show your ENTIRE TIME at that school
- Attendance Start Date should be when you first attended the school
- Attendence End Date should be your expected graduation date
- for Graduated/Completed, choose In Progress if you are currently attending the school
2. Review Course Options
- Review potential HCC courses chosen by your high school or career center for dual credit. Note any literacy or math placement requirements
- Talk with your high school counselor to plan your dual credit coursework.Your high school counselor is your main point of contact to enroll in these courses.
- You will be enrolled into courses based on rosters from your high school or career center.
3. Meet the Placement Requirements
Many CollegeNOW courses require you to meet placement requirements in Literacy and/or Math.
- Review your high school's course list for placement requirements
- Visit the Testing Center for information on placement testing and testing waiver options.
- Talk with your high school counselor to make sure you meet placement by enrollment and registration deadlines.
- Counselors may arrange for group placement testing, or help you sign up for a testing appointment.
4. Log In to myHeartland
Login to your myHeartland account at home.heartland.edu. Here you can:
- Manage your password
- Access myHeartland.edu email and check it regularly
- View your HCC Class Schedule and grades
- Access your classes in Canvas
Know and Understand Drop and Withdrawal Deadlines
You can Drop or Withdraw from an HCC course according to the deadline set for each semester on the Academic Calendar. It is important to knowt he difference between the two options:
- When you drop a class by the drop (Refund) deadline, it is completely removed from your HCC transcript
- When you withdraw from a course after the drop deadline but before the withdrawal deadline, a "W" grade will appear on your HCC transript. A withdrawal counts as an unsuccesful attempt but does not impact your college GPA
Student Services and Support
CollegeNOW students are HCC students and have access to many of the services provided to college students, such as:
- Academic Advising
- free HCC student ID card
- Library and Tutoring Services
- Fitness and Recreation Center access
Student Access and Accommodations
Students enrolled in dual credit courses taught at the high school, career center or other District-managed locations shall have access to the supplementary aids and accommodations included in their individualized education program (IEP) under Article 14 of the School Code or Section 504 plan under the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, in accordance with established practices at the high school for providing these services.
Students who enroll in dual credit courses taught online or at the College, by a college faculty member shall complete Heartland's Request for Accommodations through Student Access and Accommodations Services (SAAS). Through SAAS, students are eligible to receive reasonable college level accommodations, which could differ from the supplementary aids and accommodation in their IEP or 504 plan. The high school district and Heartland will work together to provide seamless communication about the student's progress in dual credit courses.

Successfully completing HCC courses as a CollegeNOW student means you can easily continue on to earn a degree or certificate at Heartland! Simply resubmit the Heartland application. Don't worry - you will keep the same HCC login credentials and email address. Then, you can meet with an academic advisor to plan your next steps!
Access Your College Transcript
The grade you earn will be recorded on your unofficial and official HCC transcript.
- You can download and print a copy of your unofficial transcript instantly from your Student Center.
- If you intend to transfer your Heartland credits to another college/university, you can request your official transcript after your last HCC course.
*Colleges use official transcripts to determine your financial aid eligibility. If you continue your college education after high school graduation and plan to seek financial aid, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
