Heartland event shares Veterans' stories

Heartland Community College will be hosting an event to bring the stories of veterans to the forefront through war letters and a “living library.” 

Heartland Community College and the Livingston County War Museum present “Through the Eyes of Veterans” at the Astroth Community Education Center (ACEC) Auditorium from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20. 

The event begins with a presentation of Heartland students reading war letters sent home by veterans serving abroad. 

After that presentation, guest veterans will serve as a “Human Library,” allowing students to hear personal stories in one-on-one time with vets. 

The event will conclude with the panel “Bridging the Divide” which presents veterans sharing their stories and answering questions developed by Heartland students. 

This event was created to build connections across generations between students and veterans through education and understanding of veteran experiences. 

"Through the Eyes of Veterans" was developed by Social Sciences instructor Amanda Walton and is funded through a Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) Innovation Grant established by Heartland.
