Laura Hughs named Heartland Controller

Heartland Community College has named Laura Hughs to the position of Controller. 

Hughs comes to Heartland from Bloomington Public Schools District 87 where she served as Director of Accounting. She previously served as an Accountant and HR Analyst with the City of Bloomington, and was District Accountant for IlliniWest HSD #307. 

Hughs holds a Master’s of Science in Accountancy from Illinois State University and a Bachelor’s of Science from Saint Xavier University. 

“We are very fortunate to have Laura join the Heartland family and we look forward to adding her perspective to the College,” said Noah Lamb, Vice President of Finance and Administration. “Laura brings a depth of knowledge to our Business Office that goes beyond accounting and financial operations – she is an effective leader that advocates for her team and I know she will build relationships throughout the organization.” 

The Controller leads all Business Office operations at Heartland Community College including accounting, cashiering, accounts payable, grant accounting, and payroll. The position is responsible for maintaining effective accounting, cash management and financial reporting systems for all funds under control of the College and Heartland Community College Foundation. The Controller is responsible for the development and implementation of business and fiscal policies and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls as well as serves as a liaison with external auditors.
