Erin Furimsky: Beyond Beckoning

June 1 - July 24, 2015

About the Exhibit

Beyond Beckoning features Furimsky's hand-built, sculptural ceramic forms with carved and glazed surfaces. Her work explores functional and decorative elements of domestic forms as she investigates "not only the aesthetic qualities of familiar objects, but also their symbolic functions within our lives."

About the Artist

Erin Furimsky is an artist and educator in Bloomington, IL. Her ceramic work focuses on the relationship of sculptural form with highly ornamented surfaces.

Since 1997, Furimsky’s work has been displayed in more than 100 group and solo national exhibitions and in international exhibitions in China and Taiwan. Critical reviews of Furimsky’s work have appeared in the journals Ceramics Monthly and Ceramics Art and Perception. Her artist residencies include the Archie Bray Foundation, The Red Lodge Clay Center, The Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and the Oregon College of Art and Design.

In 2006, Furimsky was named an emerging artist by the National Council on Education of the Ceramic Arts. As an educator, she has been a featured presenter at national workshops, served as a visiting professor at Illinois State University and currently teaches at Heartland Community College. Her working methods and knowledge of ceramic techniques are featured in Layered Surfaces with Erin, a Ceramic Arts Daily DVD.
