One Stop Shop for Hawks

What’s better than having two great services to meet our students’ needs? Having one great service that meets those needs in a one-stop shop. Enter the Hawk ShopThe Hawk Shop takes over a newly-renovated space in WDC 2230 and is a combination of the Career Closet and the Food Pantry. The Career Closet offers free, professional attire to students preparing for an interview or job fair, those taking professional headshots, or even those who have an upcoming school presentation. The Food Pantry offers pantry staples, canned goods, perishable items, and personal care items. You can refer our students to one spot to meet both professional clothing and food needs. This is just another way that Heartland helps support its students!

Spring Sports Are Here!

The days are longer and wetter, and Girl Scouts are hawking their sweet treats outside stores across the country. That can only mean one thing – spring! And while it’s a crap shoot on any given day whether we’ll have spring weather, one thing’s for sure – it's spring sports season at Heartland. So make it a point of following along with our student athletes and maybe even take in a game or two. Girl Scout cookies would make a great spectating snack. Just sayin’.

Sign Up to Serve

While we’re talking about spring, there’s another event just around the corner. Heartland’s annual Service Day is coming up on April 24. Take advantage of this day to give back to our community by signing up for a Service Day project. Grab a friend, a co-worker, or even a family member, and spend the day doing something that makes you feel good!

Pop-up Apparel Shop Open for a Limited Time

Are you doing some spring cleaning to your closet? If so, what a perfect time to add some new pieces to your wardrobe. Even if you’re not spring cleaning (we won’t tell), you can add some new pieces, and we’ll make it easy. The Heartland spring apparel pop-up shop is open until March 19. Pick yourself up a little something nice. And don’t forget to wear it on True Blue Tuesdays!

Bird to Bird

Just like peanut butter and jelly, Heartland and ISU are better together. Recently, both institutions announced  three new articulation agreements that will help us work together to better serve our students. The articulation agreements are designed to make the transfer process from Heartland to ISU simpler and more efficient. The new agreements include a pathway for special education paraprofessionals to earn a bachelor’s degree, and engineering students to earn either a bachelors degree of engineering or mechanical engineering. Birds of a feather really do flock together.

Still to come...

Random Knowledge to Make You Just a Little Smarter

Marie Curie was the first person, and only female, to receive two Nobel Prizes. She won her first one in physics in 1903 and her second one in chemistry in 1911. Overachiever.

Recommended Reading from Hawkfeed

Just call us Oprah. We’re adding a new feature to Hawkfeed in 2026! Check out ‘Feed Reads for reading suggestions. This month’s pick is The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. It centers around a group of four 1960s housewives who gather to read books, and in the process, find that their lives are maybe not as fulfilling as they thought. Through reading books like their first pick, The Feminine Mystique, the friends re-examine what they want their lives to be. A perfect read for National Women's History Month!
