Matthew Kemp named Head Soccer Coach
March 30, 2023Heartland Community College Athletics has named Matthew Kemp as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer program.
Kemp previously served as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Illinois Wesleyan University. He also gained coaching experience at the high school level in Nebraska. Kemp's credentials include holding coaching badges from the English Football Association and interning with the Boston United Football Club in England in 2010.
Kemp's playing days at the collegiate level include a stop at Bellevue University (NAIA) before finishing his career at California State-Monterey Bay (Division II). His educational background includes a bachelor's degree in human communication journalism and media studies from California State University-Monterey Bay in 2018.
Coach Kemp takes over squads that saw great success in recent seasons. Last year, the Women’s Soccer team ended their season with a 12-3-1 record that included wins over three ranked opponents; The Women’s team was ranked as the No. 1 team for multiple weeks in the NJCAA DII polls and was claimed a Region-24 championship. The Men’s team posted a 15-game winning streak last season including five wins over ranked opponents. Their tournament play included a Region-24 championship and a District championship.

Heartland has a great reputation academically with the athletic department matching those standards of excellence. I’m excited to build upon previous successes and help elevate Heartland Soccer to the national stage on a consistent basis. I am looking forward to getting to know the student-athletes, while striving to achieve pride and excellence in our soccer programs on and off the field."
