Heartland students nominated for Illinois Community College Trustees Association awards
April 20, 2025Four Heartland Community College students have been nominated for state-level awards from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA).
The ICCTA awards recognize outstanding contributions from people and programs at community colleges in the state of Illinois and are given annually in several categories. Four students were selected as the college-wide nominees in their respective categories and will receive recognition at the April Board of Trustees meeting. All four students are nominated to the ICCTA for the state awards, which will be announced in June.
Ella Brownlee from Normal is the College’s nominee for the Gregg Chadwick Student Service Scholarship for extraordinary commitment to volunteer service. The award is named after former Heartland Board of Trustees Chair, the late Gregg Chadwick.
Maddison Foster from Dwight was nominated for the Gandhi/King Peace Scholarship for those who best articulate the peaceful messages of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sophia Hubbs from Normal won the college-wide competition for the Paul Simon Student Essay Contest. Her essay has been submitted by Heartland for the state-level competition. The Paul Simon Student Essay Contest provides awards to students who best describe "How My Community College Has Changed My Life."
Auston Koch from Bloomington has been nominated for the Gigi Campbell Student Trustee Excellence Scholarship. Koch served as Heartland’s Student Trustee for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
All currently enrolled students at ICCTA member colleges are eligible to participate each year; however, each college may enter only one student entry per scholarship in the statewide competition per academic year.
