Image and Sound: Animations of L J Douglas

In Image and Sound, Douglas presents flash animations with sound featuring her original compositions and ambient recordings of nature. She describes her animations, as well as her paintings and drawings, as "using visual analogies to collapse and expand meaning in the language of abstraction".
About the Artist
Douglas has exhibited paintings, drawings, and artists’ books nationally and internationally. Douglas’s works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and Brooklyn Museum, New York; the National Gallery of Art and National Museum of Women in the Arts,Washington D.C.; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, as well as other significant collections. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America, Art News, New Art Examiner, Dialogue Magazine, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, and The Chicago Reader.
Douglas is currently teaching at Heartland Community College and Illinois Wesleyan University. She has taught at Illinois State University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, University of Illinois at Chicago, and was a visiting artist at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
