  • Economics is the science of human choice. It relates to every aspect of our lives, from our individual decisions to the ways in which companies and governments operate. As an HCC student in Economics you'll compare, contrast, and analyze a variety of global systems by exploring:

    • basic economic theory
    • supply and demand
    • product and resource pricing
    • employment theory
    • fundamental economic policies
  • Best-sellers like Freakonomics and Money Ball have shown the importance of economic principles in shaping the world around us. As a student in the Economics curriculum, you can join the Business Club and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at Heartland.

  • As a program graduate, you'll be prepared to transfer to a four-year institution. There, you can pursue a bachelor's degree and equip yourself for an assortment of career possibilities often held by those with an economics background, including roles as a:

    • Financial Analyst
    • Market Analyst
    • Public Policy Consultant
    • Researcher Or Research Assistant

     

    Employment of economists is projected to grow 6% from 2021 to 2031. As the global economy continues to expand, demand for economists is expected to grow.*

    Associate in Arts - Concentration in Economics

    If you plan to complete the first two years of study at Heartland and then continue your studies as a economics major at a four-year institution in Illinois, the Associate in Arts (AA) transfer preparation program is the path for you.
