Playing in Post Season

Fall 2024 was a season of success for Heartland Hawk Athletics. All of the fall sports qualified for post-season play. As noted in October’s Hawkfeed, the cross country teams fared well at Nationals with Nora Brady taking home the individual women’s championship. The women’s and men’s teams scored 6th and 11th, respectively, in the nation. On the pitch, both the women’s and men’s soccer teams advanced to the National Tournament. The women survived through the semifinal round. Volleyball, in only the program’s 5th year, also secured a bid to the National Tournament and secured a 3rd place showing. Not to be outdone, the esports program has 18 teams bound for the playoffs.  Congrats to these high-flying Hawks!

For a chance to win a Hunter squishy, what was Nora’s time at Nationals? (hint: the answer can be found in the November Hawkfeed.) Submit your answer by December 12 to marketing@heartland.edu.

Where Is It?

With the opening of several new spaces in the Student Center in the WDC, lots of departments have moved. The Heartland Bookstore has also recently made the move. Make sure you know where they are. There may be a quiz later.

Constitution Trail Takes the Scenic Route

Heartland’s campus is ever evolving, and one of the newest changes will actually be outside of the buildings of the Normal camps. Thanks in part to funding from COUNTRY, as well as a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, plans are in place to have the Constitution Trail loop around Heartland’s own Birky Pond. The trail addition will also include some features for trail goers to enjoy as well. In what may be our quickest campus revamp, construction is expected to start in April and be completed in August.

Compliance Training

It’s time for everyone’s favorite activity – compliance training! All Heartland employees are required to complete annual online compliance training. An email was sent out to all employees on November 4th with the information for this year’s trainings. The due date to complete these is June 30. So grab an extra mug of coffee and pencil in some time to get up-to-date on this important task.

Year in Re(ar)view

With 2024 winding down, it’s a good time to look back at some of the amazing things that happened at Heartland this year. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. Take a gander through the first annual digital version of the Community Update. It’s the best feel-good read since Remarkably Bright Creatures 🐙 (and if you haven’t read that one...you should!).

Still to come...
