At Heartland, there's many ways to continue your education beyond the classroom. Whether it's crafting, cooking or you're looking for ways to improve professionally, chances are there's something for you. 

Early Fall 2022 Courses

  • Learn how to use your sewing machine by understanding key terms such as bobbin, tension, stitch length, threading, presser foot (and various types), fabric threads, and overall machine maintenance. Stitch up a pillowcase using your newfound skills. Bring your own sewing machine, manual, attachments and power adapter. Leave confident to create other projects and ready to take on an advanced sewing class or even quilting!).

    Course Fee: $25

    Dates: Wednesday, September 14
    Times: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
    Location: HCC Lincoln, Room 209 or ZOOM (choose at registration)

    Please bring $5 cash to class for supplies fee.  Please also bring your sewing machine (with attachments and power adapter) and basic sewing supplies.


  • Create a comfy rag quilt that's easy to make but impressive to view. Rag quilts are made of cotton or flannel and have exposed seams that fray when washed, taking the softness factor up a notch! Customize them by choosing different fabric designs and colors. Bring your own sewing machine, manual, attachments, and power adapter.

    Course Fee: $85

    Dates: Wednesdays, 9/21 - 10/12 (4 sessions)
    Times: 6:00 to 9:00 PM
    Location: HCC Lincoln, Room 209

    Please bring the following supplies:

    • 4 yards of flannel or cotton for the top of the quilt (I’m going to use 4 – 1-yard cuts of different colors)
    • 4 yards of flannel OR batting for the middle of the quilt (I’m going to use cotton batting)
    • 4 yards of flannel for the back of the quilt (I’m using another 4-1 yard cuts of different colors)
    • Rotary Cutter & Large Cutting Mat
    • Sewing Machine
    • Thread
    • Washable marking pen
    • Sewing Pins
    • Walking foot (optional, but recommended)
    • Scissors (spring loaded are recommended)
