COVID Operations Update 3-31-22

March 31, 2022

The CDC recently issued updated guidance for face coverings based upon community levels of COVID. Paired with the improving picture in Central Illinois and state’s easing of masking requirements, we are revising our procedure regarding wearing masks on campus.

Effective April 4, 2022 face coverings will be optional in most Heartland Community College facilities.

We expect all individuals on campus to be mindful and respectful of those who may ask you to wear a face covering while in close proximity. Students are to wear a mask in class or lab if required by their instructor.

Masks may still be required under specialized guidance in some locations including:

  • SHIELD Testing sites
  • The Child Development Lab
  • Other specialized instructional areas such as clinical sites

NK95/KN95 masks will remain available for persons on campus.

The College will continue to monitor the pandemic, with guidance from the CDC, Illinois Dept. of Public Health and our local health departments. The adjustment of our Standards of Care are based on the situational data we gain from these sources as well as our internal monitoring.  Our shift to the new guidelines, and the timing of this latest adjustment, was informed by those processes.

Vaccination documentation or weekly testing requirements remain in place in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order.

The SHIELD Testing center remains open on campus and it is recommended that individuals utilize the service on a regular basis.
