Instructor Receives Funds to Become Student
Who says scholarships are only for students? Not Dameron Beverly. The HCC nursing instructor has been awarded the CastleBranch Educator Scholarship from the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). The $2,500 scholarship was established to assist with professional development for associate degree nursing educators. Beverly will be presented with the scholarship at the OADN convention in Tampa, Florida at the end of the month. Surely a member of the marketing team needs to accompany Dameron...you know, for promotional purposes.

Marketing Strikes Gold...and Silver...and Bronze
Speaking of awards, the HCC marketing team came away with four of them at the National Council of Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 3 Conference in Cleveland, Ohio last month. More than 500 entries were submitted for the NCMPR Medallion awards across various categories. Winning entries from Heartland included:
- Gold Medallion - T-shirt Logo Design (Heartland apparel)
- Silver Medallion - eNewsletter Design (Discover Newsletter)
- Bronze Medallion - Catalog (Summer Kids@Heartland booklet)
- Bronze Medallion - Unmanipulated Photo (Continuing Ed beekeeper photo)
Kudos to the marketing team!

Breakfast on the Quad, Sorta
When is Breakfast on the Quad not actually on the Quad? When it’s Breakfast on the Quad: Ag Complex Edition! Last month community leaders and friends of the College were invited to campus to learn about what is happening at the College and enjoy some breakfast while taking in our new Agriculture Complex. Attendees at this year’s event learned about enrollment, student completions, apprenticeships, and healthcare career training. The event went so well that word on the street is that future Breakfasts on the Quad could also be Quad-less.

Chocolate-Covered Support
Heartland recently received a sweet gift from an area business. Italian candy maker Ferrero, who recently opened a $214 million chocolate plant in BloNo, has made a $10,000 donation to support space in the new Advanced Manufacturing Center. The gift is just the latest way the chocolate maker has partnered with Heartland. They already have an apprenticeship program with the College. What kind of partnership do we need to add in order for them to send over some of those Kinder Bueno bars?

Student-Centered
Sub sandwiches, beach balls, and ribbons...oh my! It was a party atmosphere at the Student Center in the WDC on October 3rd as a group descended to officially open the new spaces on the first and second floors. Students Austin Koch and Candice Byrd spoke about their experiences as Heartland Hawks before the ribbon was cut and beach balls dropped from on high. Lunch was provided, goodies were given away, and the big scissors had a big day as they cut the ribbon on the main space as well as six spaces within the building.

Ag-cellent News
Heartland will have impressive representation at this year’s McLean County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Awards Dinner. Trustee and Board Chair Becky Ropp will be honored as the Outstanding Person in Agribusiness, an award that recognizes a businessperson who has served to improve agriculture through civic and community activities. Becky will have some company as an honoree. HCC Student Lauren Monk will be honored with the Emerging Leader in Agriculture Award. This award recognizes a young professional or high school or college student engaged in non-production agriculture who has served to improve agriculture through civic and community activities. Lauren is an active Heartland Hawk who has served as a student ambassador and as a leader in our chapter of the Collegiate Farm Bureau Club. Congrats to both!
