Honors Program Faculty and Staff
After working as a registered nurse for several years, Jennifer started her career at Heartland as nursing faculty in 2015. She then moved into administration as the Dean of Health Sciences and is currently the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
In her spare time, Jen likes reading, riding her bike, dancing, and playing chess.
- Matt got his start in higher education as a first-generation college student and Phi Theta Kappa member at McHenry County College in northern Illinois. He has taught all levels of English at Heartland for over 25 years. Matt's teaching interests include developmental education, reading and literacy, and service learning. When not teaching, Matt can probably be found working on his house, riding a bike, attending a kid sporting event, or digging through a box of vintage baseball cards.
- Janet has spent her professional life as a Research Psychologist and Program Evaluator in a range of applied areas, including mental health and substance abuse treatment, childhood trauma, early childhood mental health, homelessness, and sexual assault prevention. In fall 2018, she started teaching courses in psychology at Heartland Community College to share her passion with others.
Outside of Heartland, she is a mom, wife, and a cat mom. Her interests are wide-ranging and include exploring antique malls, gardening, cooking/baking, American Sign Language, and decking out dollhouses. Sara has been an academic advisor at Heartland since 2011 and began advising the Honors Program students in 2018. Sara also serves as chapter assistant for Phi Theta Kappa at Heartland.
In her off time, Sara enjoys reading (particularly historical fiction, memoirs, and sociological and psychological nonfiction), traveling, and watching St. Louis Blues and Bloomington Bison hockey.
