Journalism

  • If communicating to a mass audience about people, places and events sounds interesting, you would enjoy studying journalism. Working in the field involves thoughtful analysis, strong teamwork skills, civic and global literacy. Journalism courses at HCC also help you develop important skills in researching, interviewing and writing.

  • Journalism-focused courses at HCC include Writing for the Media, Newspaper Production, Advertising and Culture, Mass Communication and Photography. You can even write for the school's award-winning monthly newspaper, The Spectator, and begin building your professional portfolio.

  • By studying journalism, you can become a skilled writer and critical thinker. Students who continue their education in this field often work as reporters, in new media, business and education. Other occupations entered by those with journalism credentials include:

    • Columnist
    • Community/media relations
    • Copywriting
