Proficiency Exams
Description: Heartland Community College offers various profiency exams to earn credit for specific courses. A course proficiency exam should be completed at least 2 weeks before the beginning of a term as to allow time for credit processing. If you are interested in taking a Proficiency Exam, please contact your Academic Advisor to discuss your options.
Cost: Start by requesting your exam. When you are prepared to take your selected Proficiency Exam, you will need to pay the non-refundable fee of $34 per credit hour to HCC Business Office. After payment is received, the Testing Center will reach out to assist you in scheduling your exam
Credit acceptance: Students may be granted a max of 30 credits or 50% of their program plan. In order for prior learning credit to be posted to an account, students must be in a HCC degree seeking program.
The Records Office will only post prior learning credit relevant to your HCC degree. Posting irrelevant credit could negatively impact your financial aid and/or veterans benefits. Please contact Financial Aid for more information at FinAid@heartland.edu
Transferability: Proficiency courses may only be applicable to your program at Heartland and may not transfer. Please consult your transfer institution about transferability.
