Literacy

The ACCUPLACER Literacy test assesses four broad knowledge and skills categories: information and ideas, rhetoric, synthesis, and vocabulary.

Retesting

In addition to the placement waiver options, students have the opportunity for two attempts at literacy placement with proctored assessments at Heartland Community College. The first attempt is the ACCUPLACER assessment. Students who place below 240 on the ACCUPLACER can make a second attempt at literacy placement through completion of a Writing Sample. The Writing Sample can be completed the same day as the ACCUPLACER and requires a proctored 250-350 word essay with a standard time limit of 90 minutes. Writing Sample results are available in five to seven business days.
